Congratulations to all the students who attended our beginner and intermediate belt testing this past Saturday. Many of you were taking your very first test as karate students and truly did a wonderful job. Keep up the great work guys!
We held our final test of the 2017 calendar year. For two hours, the candidates gave it their all and never wavered, despite being pushed harder than they might have wanted. In an age where testing is often viewed as politically incorrect, the students of the Shiseikan continue to embrace personal accountability and charge forward, hardening their will and refining their character, regardless of the adversity that crosses their path. You are the keepers of one of Okinawa’s richest traditions. And because of you real karate-do will live on. Congratulations!
It’s been a long time in the making, but yesterday, after beginning their karate training nearly eight years ago here at the Peabody Shiseikan, the Okinawan Karate-Do Association awarded the rank of Shodan to our first two students who began their karate practice here as young children.
Thank you both for embodying everything it means to be a strong karate-ka, and for representing our dojo so well. I know the process was far from easy, but it’s the journey that has made you the person that you’ve become. Always remember to rise…Nana korobi ya oki. Congratulations!

Here’s some pictures of our July & August sessions of summer club! The kids’ had a ton of fun playing outside, taking Japanese lessons and doing some indoor games! Thanks for joining us, we can’t wait for next year!
It was an honor yesterday to celebrate the growth and progress of two very dedicated karate practitioners. You both did a fine job at your grading, and I know I speak for everyone here at the Shiseikan when I say that we’re grateful to have such fine gentlemen as part of our dojo family. Thank you for your passion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the dojo – you bring out the best in everyone you interact with here. I also want to express my gratitude to your spouses for their ongoing support and sacrifice, without which, now of what we have accomplished together would have be possible.
Congratulations to the newest Junior Black Belts of Authentic Karate Training Center. Your performance at today’s exam truly spoke for itself. It was clear from watching you that the dedication and devotion you bring to your practice separate you from the field, and we couldn’t be more proud of the young men you have turned into. Omedeto gozaimasu!
